The "D" in the acronym DPW ("Department" of Public Works) now, more than ever, stands for the "Diversity" of Public Works. The Department, comprised of the eleven service areas listed below, has been organized to deliver better, faster and even more cost-effective public works and community affairs services to our City's residents and visitors.

Office Locations
The employees of the Department of Public Works are "under one roof" only figuratively speaking. You will find members of this department at the:
- R.V. Terrill Building, 1120 Jackson St
- Community Center, 421 Columbus St
- Lake Forest Cemetery, 1304 Lake Ave
- Water Filtration Plant, 30 Sherman St
- Municipal Marina, 101 N Harbor Dr
You will also find them working in every weather condition on the streets, sidewalks, boardwalks, parks and new developments. You will see them cleaning and maintaining our City's facilities, changing the lights on the pier, setting up rooms for meetings and serving at the community picnic.

Staff
The Department's eleven service areas are staffed by 46 fulltime and 32 part time or seasonal employees. Assembling individuals with a variety of educational, training and experience backgrounds "under one roof" facilitates communications, increases efficiency and results in right-sized, multi-disciplined teams that are capable of tackling projects that are:
- Long or short in duration
- Large or small in size or cost
- Delivered as scheduled maintenance or on an emergency basis
Depending on the need, the Director can assemble teams comprised of staff from within a single service area or comprised of staff from any number of service areas.
DPW staff members serve as city liaisons on a variety of boards including the Cemetery Board, Community Center Board, Environment and Natural Resource Committee, North Ottawa Water Harbor Board, Musical Fountain Committee and the Parks and Recreation Board.
