Equipment Operator I

The City of Grand Haven is seeking an Equipment Operator I for a fulltime opening. Under supervision of the Streets Crew Leader, this individual performs a variety of maintenance and repair throughout the City of Grand Haven including but not limited to:

Removes damaged sidewalks and curbs, cuts roots, forms, pours and finishes concrete.
Prepares streets and parking lots for asphalt patching, performs necessary shoveling, racking and rolling.
Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs including fueling, lubricating and cleaning machinery to ensure proper operation.
Assists with removal of snow from streets, sidewalks and parking lots as appropriate.

The successful candidate will also be required to assist in other areas of the Department of Public Works as the needs arise. In so doing, all aspects of the Equipment Operator I job description apply.

A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required for this position. Ability to withstand heavy physical labor and stand for long periods of time. Ability to obtain a State of Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements within six months of employment is also required.

Harbor Transit Part-Time Drivers

The City of Grand Haven is seeking several Part time Drivers for the Harbor Transit Multi-Modal Transportation Authority. The successful candidates will accept radio dispatched requests for service and safely transport passengers within the designated service area. Additional responsibilities include collecting fares from passengers, conducting daily inspections of the vehicle, completing daily vehicle logs and other assigned or related tasks.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and a State of Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement. Experience operating vehicles for public transportation is strongly desired. The successful candidates must possess excellent people skills and be able to deliver extraordinary customer service. The ability to complete the Harbor Transit Training Program is also a condition of hire.
