Harbor Transit Part-Time Driver

The City of Grand Haven is seeking several Part Time Drivers for the Harbor Transit Multi Modal Transportation Authority. The successful candidates will accept radio dispatched requests for service and safely transport passengers within the designated service area. Additional responsibilities include collecting fares from passengers, conducting daily inspections of the vehicle, completing daily vehicle logs and other assigned or related tasks.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and a State of Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement. Experience operating vehicles for public transportation is strongly desired. The successful candidates must possess excellent people skills and be able to deliver extraordinary customer service. The ability to complete the Harbor Transit Training Program is also a condition of hire.

Harbor Transit Transportation Director

The City of Grand Haven, in conjunction with Harbor Transit Multi Modal Transportation System, is seeking an individual to serve as our Transportation Director. The successful candidate will oversee our demand response bus system covering five municipalities and 55 square miles, manage our trolley program for special event rentals and perform contract administration over the Grand Haven Memorial Airport. Our current staff includes 17 full time, 52 part time and 3 seasonal employees. The Transportation Director reports to the Harbor Transit Multi Modal Transportation System Board of Directors which meets bimonthly. Overall responsibilities include financial management (budget ad capital expenditures), long range strategic planning, personnel management, buildings and fleet maintenance and transit system technology.

A Bachelor’s Degree in business, public administration, or a related field is required. Several years’ experience in overall management and coordination is necessary as well as proven supervisory skills. Experience in researching, developing, and administering complex departmental budgets, contracts, and grants for State and Federal budgets is preferred. Knowledge of Federal, State and local regulations regarding municipal public transportation services and the ability to coordinate and implement complex policies and standards is also desired.

Water Filtration Plant Supervisor

Under the general supervision of the Water Filtration Plant Superintendent, the Water Filtration Plant Supervisor will coordinate, supervise and assist in planning the work activities of a group of water filtration plant operators. In addition, the successful candidate will perform work in the care and maintenance of municipal water treatment equipment and facilities; inspect work of contractors; and oversee the laboratory and other projects needed for operation, maintenance and expansion of the overall water filtration system. Ability to oversee the daily management of a staff of five is also a critical role.

A Bachelors’ degree in mechanical engineering or environmental sciences is preferred. In lieu of formal education, a combination of education and prior work experience may be considered. An F-2 MDEQ Waterworks System Operator Certification with the ability to attain an F-1 MDEQ Certification within 2 years is strongly desired. Five or more years of experience in the water filtration field is also highly desired with experience in supervision a plus. Knowledge and understanding of process automation and SCADA and CMMS systems is necessary.
