Fishing Line Recycling
In summer of 2009, two monofilament fishing line recycling bins were donated to the City of Grand Haven.
One bin is located at Chinook Pier Fish Cleaning Station, the other at East End Boat Launch so that fishermen and passersby can deposit unwanted fishing line or fishing line litter they find.
Fishing line lasts up to 600 years in the environment. Because it is invisible to wildlife, it causes serious injury and even death to animals who become entangled.
Line is cleaned of debris and when enough is collected, it’s sent postage-paid to Pure Fishing in Idaho where it’s recycled into products such as fish habitat and park benches.
The local fishing line collection project was initiated on Earth Day in Spring of 2009.
