Ordinances/Laws

Animal

No person shall allow any animal to be in any park or on any beach or any public place under the control of the city at any time where such park, beach or public place is posted:

 

“No Pets Allowed”,  “No Dogs Allowed”, “No Animals Allowed”

 

The City of Grand Haven has a designated dog park on the beach.  The area begins approximately 1/10 of a mile south of the City beach, and continues to the end of Grand Avenue.  The area is posted as a designated area for leashed dogs.

Skateboarding

It is unlawful to skate in the roadway in the City of Grand Haven.  It is also unlawful to skate on the sidewalks of Washington Avenue between Third Street and Harbor Drive from Memorial day to Labor Day.  For additional information about skateboarding and other non-motorized activities go to Municode.

 

Parking

The City of Grand Haven makes every effort  to accommodate residents, business owners and visitors alike with regard to parking.

 

There are restrictions to parking in the downtown area which include 3 hour parking, Overnight Parking, Residential Permit Parking and Park and Ride.  The three hour parking limitations are clearly posted in the applicable areas and have been posted as such to accommodate persons visiting the downtown area.  Overnight parking is not allowed for purposes of snow removal and in the summertime for cleaning of the lots.  The only exception to overnight parking is the Residential Parking Permit.  Click here for additional information on downtown residential parking.  If you qualify you may simply complete the application.

Additionally there are restrictions on the on-street parking throughout the City during the winter months for purposes of snow removal.  Those restrictions are from 2:00am-6:00am, from December 1 through April 1 of the following calendar year.  The City does allow for exemptions to this rule on a very limited basis.  Any City resident seeking an exemption must contact the Records Division of the Public Safety Department in person during regular business hours, 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday.  Proof of residency is required.


Noise

It is unlawful for any person to make, continue or cause to be made or continued any loud, unnecessary or unusual noise or any noise which either annoys, disturbs, injures or endangers the comfort, repose, health, peace or safety of others, within the limits of the City of Grand Haven.

 

Chapter 22 of the Municipal Code addresses specific issues regarding noise complaints, including amplified sound from a motor vehicle.  For addtional information refer to Municode.
