Our Mission
To develop a plan that takes the homeowner into a place where, rather than
letting their finances control their life; they control their finances.
All of us here at Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) understand the trying time
that you and your family are dealing with. We also understand similiar frustrations
that many homeowners have already dealt with when trying to negotiate something
with their mortgage servicers. This is where we can help.
After speaking with one of our certified housing counselors, he/she may provide you
with one or more of the following:
A plan of action to empower you to make informed decisions regarding your situation
- Present all options...both best & worse case scenarios
- Negotiate with your lender in order to make your home more affordable
- Develop a budget that will work for you
- Help you identify ways to improve your financial longevity
Please keep in mind: We provide these services for free! If an agency is charging fees in exchange for the services that we provide for free, YOU MAY BE THE VICTIM OF A SCAM. Click here for more information.

Other Information
Housing counseling agencies funded through the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Program, administered by NeighborWorks America, can provide you with the information and assistance you need to avoid foreclosure through the Homeowner Affordability and Stability Plan (HASP).
The City of Grand Haven is YOUR local partner in Ottawa County to this national initiative.
HASP is part of President Obama’s broad, comprehensive strategy to get the economy and the Housing market back on track. The plan potentially could help up to 9 million families restructure or refinance their mortgages to avoid foreclosure. Borrowers that are interested in exploring their options and eligibility under HASP can contact a counseling agency for free counseling without being referred by a servicer. If it is determined they may be eligible for the loan modification or refinance program, the counselor will work with the borrower to submit an intake package to the servicer. This service is provided free of charge for homeowners in Ottawa County by the City of Grand Haven, a nonprofit housing counseling agency working in partnership with the Federal Government. Our agency will provide borrowers with the services they need to take advantage of HASP and avoid foreclosure. There is no need to pay a private company for these services.
