The City of Grand Haven's
Neighborhood Housing Services has partnered with the Michigan State Housing Development Authority with the goal to create successful homeownership opportunities and improve the quality of life for those who choose to make Grand Haven home.
Pre-Purchase Homebuyer Education Class
Whether you want to increase your knowledge about home ownership before you buy OR you need assistance as a homeowner struggling to make your mortgage payment. Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Certified housing counselors are available. Housing counseling services are available to OTTAWA COUNTY RESIDENTS.
Increase your knowledge of the home buying and owning process. This 6 hour class will prepare you for successful home ownership as we discuss the following topics; Assessing your readiness to purchase, Managing Your Money, Understanding Credit, Getting a Mortgage Loan, Shopping for a Home and Keeping Your Home and Managing Your Finances.

Homeownership Self-Test
Credit Repair
This service is available for the home buyer that has credit issues that prevent them from purchasing a home. Intensive budgeting, credit repair and debt management sessions are delivered to potential home buyers. (pre-requisite Home Buyer Education)
One on One Home Buyer Education
This class is for home buyers receiving MSHDA mortgage financing and a referral by their lender. Documents to be provided include; Good Faith Estimate, Truth in Lending Statement and the Purchase Agreement.
Pre-Purchase Credit Repair Funds
Available to home buyers that have experienced a significant life event (ie. Illness, death, divorce) that has decreased their credit score and made it challenging to qualify for a good mortgage in the local market.
Home Maintenance Training
Currently not available. Check back for future development.
Foreclosure Prevention Services
FREE, CONFIDENTIAL service provided to Ottawa County homeowner’s struggling to make their mortgage payments. Early intervention is the key. For more information, click here.
Home Inspections
Funds available to eligible households for home inspections. (Pre-requisite Home Buyer Education)
Homebuyer Purchase Rehabilitation
The Home Purchase Rehabilitation grant enables income eligible families to become successful sustained homeowners. The grant provides funds to rehab existing homes in the City of Grand Haven. Up to $20,000 is available for rehab and up to $10,000 in down payment assistance. Homebuyers must be between 40-80% of the area median income based on family size and have less than $10,000 in liquid assets.
