Recreation Coordinator

The North Ottawa Recreation Authority (NORA) is seeking an individual to serve as the NORA Coordinator. The successful candidate will oversee our extensive recreational programming serving the municipalities represented by the regional, multijurisdictional Board of Directors. The NORA Coordinator will oversee a paid staff of 2 and an extensive volunteer staff as necessary to provide the programs and activities offered to the residents of the communities we serve. Overall responsibilities include financial management (budget and capital expenditures), long range strategic planning, personnel management, and program development and implementation.

A Bachelor’s Degree in recreation or a related field is required with at least three years of proven experience. Knowledge of recreational program operations and administrative procedures is necessary. The ability to manage multiple tasks is critical. The successful candidate will have the skills to oversee varied projects, events and programs and to successfully schedule the details.

Building Inspector

The City of Grand Haven is accepting applications for the position of Building Inspector. This individual will be responsible for conducting inspections on residential, commercial and industrial properties for conformity with codes and ordinances.

Harbor Transit Driver (Part-Time)

Harbor Transit Multi Modal Transportation Authority is seeking Part Time Drivers due to increased ridership and customer demand. The successful candidates will accept computer aided dispatched requests for service and safely transport passengers within the designated service area. Additional responsibilities include collecting fares from passengers, conducting daily inspections of the vehicle, completing daily vehicle logs and other assigned or related tasks.

Custodian

The City of Grand Haven is seeking a fulltime Custodian. The main duties of this position will include cleaning and maintaining offices, meeting rooms and public areas of all City buildings; set up, arrange and tear down furniture and audio-visual equipment for classes, meetings, and special events; stock and replace light bulbs and bathroom supplies; and report damaged or broken doors, windows, walls and equipment requiring involved repairs. The successful candidate will provide friendly, courteous and helpful communication when interacting with staff and the general public.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Previous custodial experience is preferred including knowledge of the practices and safety issues involved in cleaning public facilities. The successful candidate will have proven ability to work independently and complete assignments in a timely manner as well as experience in dealing with the public and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. An employee in this position must have the strength, stamina and physical coordination required to participate in heavy physical labor such as lifting extremely heavy items and walking for extended periods of time.

Equipment Operator I

The City of Grand Haven is seeking an Equipment Operator I for a fulltime opening. Under supervision of the Utilities Crew Leader, this individual performs a variety of maintenance and repair throughout the City of Grand Haven including but not limited to:

Performs routine preventative maintenance and repairs to City water and sewer lines.
Diagnoses and solves leaks and water main breaks.
Installs City sewer lines and constructs man holes.
Assists with removal of snow from streets, sidewalks and parking lots as appropriate.

The successful candidate will also be required to assist in other areas of the Department of Public Works as the needs arise. In so doing, all aspects of the Equipment Operator I job description apply.

A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required for this position. Ability to withstand heavy physical labor and stand for long periods of time. Summer Employment Opportunities
The City of Grand Haven regularly hires individuals to fill positions for the summer months. These openings are in a variety of areas and are scheduled on a part to full time basis depending on the position, the events scheduled in Grand Haven during that time frame and the schedules of the other individuals in the department/area.

All positions require individuals to be at least 18 years of age and to be available for the entire summer season without long breaks or vacations. Most positions require work on weekends and holidays. All positions require work during the week of Coast Guard Festival. Previous proven work experience is preferred and solid work references are expected.

All summer employees are a vital link between the City of Grand Haven and its residents and visitors and therefore, all candidates must be prepared to function in an “ambassador” role in addition to completing the tasks of their assigned position.

The following areas will be hiring for the summer season of 2018:

WATERFRONT
Staff are responsible seven days per week for the clean and orderly appearance of the City. Staff clean all parking lots, dumpsters, fish cleaning station, public restrooms, downtown sidewalks and curbs and empty trashcans. The ability to work long hours on your feet and to lift heavy bags of trash is required. The ability to talk with residents, answer basic questions and provide directions is critical. Staff is scheduled to work 30-40 hours per week between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00pm.

MARINA
Staff are responsible seven days per week for assisting and registering boaters and working effectively with the charter fishermen. They are also responsible for the clean and orderly appearance of the Marina grounds. Ability to work with computer software is required as the DNR reservation system is used at the Municipal Marina. This position requires a high level of one on one customer service delivery. Previous experience with boating is preferred but not required. Staff is scheduled to work 30-40 hours per week – including weekends – between the hours of 8:00am and 9:00pm.

MINIATURE GOLF
Staff are responsible seven days per week to work with guests to allow play on the 18 hole miniature golf course located between Chinook Pier and the Farmers’ Market. Daily activities will include opening the course; maintaining the grounds which will include picking up trash, weeding areas around the building, the various holes and along the fences; taking money and making change for the patrons; and closing the venue in the evenings. This position requires a high level of customer service delivery. Staff is scheduled to work 20-30 hours per week – including weekends – between the hours of 10:00am and 10:00pm.

HARBOR TROLLEY
Staff provide a narrated tour of the City of Grand Haven on a designated route. Primary requirements are an ability to drive and talk at the same time, make change and keep detailed records and be able to obtain and maintain a Commercial Drivers’ License. This is a critical ambassador job and will require individuals with a love for people and a willingness to work long hours. Staff is scheduled to work approximately 35 hours per week between the hours of 10:00am and 10:00pm.

PARKS
Staff are responsible Monday through Friday for lawn care associated with the City properties, parks and green space which includes Mulligans Hollow, Marina, Harbor Island, Cemetery, etc. Their responsibilities include mowing grass, weed whipping and edging, planting and weeding flower beds, and maintaining the planters throughout downtown. Staff is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday (7:00am – 3:30pm) with no nights or weekends.
