Harbor Transit – Part-time Dispatcher

The City of Grand Haven is seeking a Part Time Dispatcher for the Harbor Transit Multi Modal Transportation System. The successful candidate will receive requests for services from the public; schedule and dispatch drivers to meet those requests; and serve as communications hub for the staff within the Harbor Transit location. This is a highly diverse position requiring the ability to handle several work tasks at the same time while employing sound judgement and flexibility.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent. The successful candidate must possess excellent people skills in order to deliver extraordinary customer service. Previous experience as a Dispatcher for general public transportation is strongly desired. This position may be requested to support the driving function in the department and therefore experience operating vehicles for public transportation, the ability to complete the Harbor Transit Training Program and a State of Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger endorsements is preferred.

Harbor Transit – Part-time Driver

The City of Grand Haven is seeking Part time Drivers for the Harbor Transit Multi Modal Transportation Authority. The successful candidates will accept computer aided dispatched requests for service and safely transport passengers within the designated service area. Additional responsibilities include collecting fares from passengers, conducting daily inspections of the vehicle, completing daily vehicle logs and other assigned or related tasks.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and a State of Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement. Experience operating vehicles for public transportation is strongly desired. The successful candidates must possess excellent people skills and be able to deliver extraordinary customer service. The ability to complete the Harbor Transit Training Program is also a condition of hire.

Custodian

The City of Grand Haven is seeking a fulltime Custodian. The main duties of this position will include cleaning and maintaining offices, meeting rooms and public areas of all City buildings; set up, arrange and tear down furniture and audio-visual equipment for classes, meetings, and special events; stock and replace light bulbs and bathroom supplies; and report damaged or broken doors, windows, walls and equipment requiring involved repairs. The successful candidate will provide friendly, courteous and helpful communication when interacting with staff and the general public.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Previous custodial experience is preferred including knowledge of the practices and safety issues involved in cleaning public facilities. The successful candidate will have proven ability to work independently and complete assignments in a timely manner as well as experience in dealing with the public and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. An employee in this position must have the strength, stamina and physical coordination required to participate in heavy physical labor such as lifting extremely heavy items and walking for extended periods of time.

This position is a pay grade 1 with starting salary of $14.04 per hour. The schedule is varied and includes working evenings – 5:00pm to 3:00am as well as some days on the weekends. Seasonal Community Police Officer

The Grand Haven Department of Public Safety is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Seasonal Community Police Officer. This is a temporary summer position with hours ranging from 26 – 40 hours per week and may lead to permanent part-time status at the conclusion of summer.

Specific duties of this temporary position will include local ordinance enforcement, foot and ATV patrol of Grand Haven City Beach, bicycle and foot patrol of downtown Grand Haven, traffic control during special events and other law enforcement duties as required.

This position requires applicants to be licensed by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards, or have the ability to be licensed by June 1, 2018. All applicants will undergo an extensive background investigation, physical agility test, and an interview board.

Wastewater Operator/Mechanic

The City of Grand Haven is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Mechanic for a fulltime opening. This position performs work relating to the operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and its related facilities. Work will include operations, maintenance, laboratory, recordkeeping, repair and servicing duties of the plant. Extensive work will be performed in the laboratory preparing reagents, standard testing, collection, and analyzing industrial waste samples.

A high school diploma is required with at least two years of additional education in Environmental Sciences preferred. Starting salary is $19.57 per hour with an excellent benefit package. Applications and a complete job description are available at City Hall.
