Vehicle Custodian (Part Time – Harbor Transit)

The City of Grand Haven is seeking a Part time Vehicle Custodian for the Harbor Transit Multi Modal Transportation Authority. The successful candidate will create and manage a bus cleaning schedule, maintain the fleet of vehicles in a clean and orderly manner, assist the mechanic as requested and perform light building maintenance duties as assigned.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience working independently is required with proven abilities to create and maintain a schedule. The successful candidate must possess excellent people skills and be able to create and maintain records of tasks planned and completed.

Dispatcher (Full Time – Harbor Transit)

Harbor Transit Multi Modal Transportation System is seeking a Full time Dispatcher. The successful candidate will receive requests for services from the public; schedule and dispatch drivers to meet those requests; and serve as communications hub for the staff within the Harbor Transit location. This is a highly diverse position requiring the ability to handle several work tasks at the same time while employing sound judgement, patience and flexibility. Previous experience in data base management is critical to success in this role and exemplary customer service skills, primarily on the telephone, will be a huge asset as well.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent. The successful candidate must possess excellent people skills in order to deliver extraordinary customer service. Previous experience as a Dispatcher for general public transportation and RouteMatch knowledge is strongly desired.

Adult Crossing Guard (part-time)

The City of Grand Haven provides School Crossing Guards for school buildings within the City limits. We are seeking an individual who is interested in providing protection and assistance to students as they use crosswalks at designated locations.

Educational requirements for this position are a high school diploma or equivalent. Good physical condition is necessary as Crossing Guards must be on location every day regardless of weather conditions. The ability to properly follow and implement all safety requirements of the position is critical. Safety requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods of time, to judge traffic patterns and flow, to communicate verbally in a clear and concise manner as well as to hold a STOP Paddle over your head for periods of time while safely crossing students of all ages. This is an independent position requiring the ability to complete tasks with little to no daily supervision.

Mechanic

The City of Grand Haven is seeking a Mechanic to perform a variety of automotive and equipment repairs and preventive maintenance tasks. The successful candidate will have proven experience working with vehicles of many types including large equipment. The ability to plan and coordinate work activities based on written expectations; to prepare and maintain various records and reports; order and maintain inventory of supplies and parts; without direct supervision is critical.

High school diploma or GED from an accredited high school, including or supplemented by technical training in general shop and auto repair work. State Mechanics Certificate in automotive brakes and electrical systems is required. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to have automotive certifications appropriate for the fleet being serviced and a knowledge of or ability to learn about all applicable regulations. Employee must provide their own tools necessary to perform the work assigned.

Three or more years of responsible experience in repairing and overhauling a variety of heavy or other automotive and power-driven equipment is preferred. State of Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain one throughout employment.

Starting Salary is $20.72/hour with excellent benefits package.
