Building Official

The City of Grand Haven is accepting applications for the position of Building Official. This individual will be responsible for conducting inspections on residential, commercial and industrial properties for conformity with codes and ordinances.

The successful candidate must be registered with the State of Michigan as a Building Official and Plan Reviewer, possess an Associate’s Degree or the equivalent in construction and building trades or a related field, and must have at least 2 years of field experience. Annual salary range is $54,500 to $62,700 with a comprehensive benefit package.

Human Resources Manager

The City of Grand Haven is seeking an experienced Human Resources professional to provide guidance and direction to our full service community. Our current staff includes 136 full time and 72 part time employees. Employment complement includes 2 independent authorities and three unions. In addition, this position provides benefits support to City retirees, the Grand Haven Board of Light and Power staff and retirees, and full Human Resources duties for Ottawa County Central Dispatch Authority under contract.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management of all aspects of employment (hiring, discipline, firing), benefits administration, workers compensation coverage and assessment, collective bargaining agreement administration and negotiation, retiree support, employee recognition, coaching and counseling, and day to day documentation and employee support.
This is a single incumbent position and therefore the successful candidate will be proficient in administrative and support tasks necessary to employ and support our varied staff.

A Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, human resources, public administration or a related field is required. Five or more years of management and coordination experience is desired.

Adult Crossing Guard (part-time)

The City of Grand Haven provides School Crossing Guards for school buildings within the City limits. We are seeking an individual who is interested in providing protection and assistance to students as they use crosswalks at designated locations.

Educational requirements for this position are a high school diploma or equivalent. Good physical condition is necessary as Crossing Guards must be on location every day regardless of weather conditions. The ability to properly follow and implement all safety requirements of the position is critical. Safety requirements include the ability to stand for extended periods of time, to judge traffic patterns and flow, to communicate verbally in a clear and concise manner as well as to hold a STOP Paddle over your head for periods of time while safely crossing students of all ages. This is an independent position requiring the ability to complete tasks with little to no daily supervision.

Harbor Transit Driver (part-time)

Harbor Transit Multi Modal Transportation Authority is seeking Part Time Drivers due to increased ridership and customer demand. The successful candidates will accept computer aided dispatched requests for service and safely transport passengers within the designated service area. Additional responsibilities include collecting fares from passengers, conducting daily inspections of the vehicle, completing daily vehicle logs and other assigned or related tasks.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and a State of Michigan Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger endorsement. Experience operating vehicles for public transportation is strongly desired. The successful candidates must possess excellent people skills and be able to deliver extraordinary customer service. The ability to complete the Harbor Transit Training Program is also a condition of hire.
